President's Message

May, 2008

I like many property owners enjoy the changes of the season. However I did find the winter this year to be a little tedious. It is great to see the snow disappear and the ice starting to recede. You know spring has arrived when the vast array of birds and waterfowl start to return. Friends and neighbors will soon be back from their winter pilgrimage to places of warmth and sunshine. It will not be long before Lake Isabella will be bustling with all the activities that make this a great community.

2007 was a very productive year. Here are some of the more significant accomplishments.

    1. The Lake Study conducted by Environmental Horizons proved to be very informative. The study gives us a solid base and guide in our quest to ensure the health and well being of Lake Isabella. (Study)
    2. The repair of the dam gate was completed in the fall. This had been a concern to many property owners for quite some time.
    3. A beautiful new pavilion was installed at Birdie Beach for the benefit and enjoyment of all property owners.

This year we will initiate many of the recommendations established in the Lake Study. We have partnered with Savin Lake professionals. They will attack and control the fast-growing invasive non-native Eurasian Milfoil and Curly Leaf Pond Weed population while protecting and promoting the growth of beneficial native weeds. We have also started a volunteer lake-monitoring program through Michigan Lakes and Streams Association. For several years we have conducted e-coli testing, but this year we plan to add Secci disc (water clarity) and spring and summer total phosphorus testing. (If you would like to volunteer to assist in these tests, please contact the LIPOA office for more information.) Your continued assistance is appreciated to ensure our lake is not being polluted with harmful chemicals. Please use only phosphorus free fertilizer when feeding your lawn. If possible, have your septic system inspected and/or pumped every three years. If building a new waterfront home, please allow for a buffer zone of vegetation at the waters edge. When aquatic weeds drift ashore, please remove them. This will keep the weeds from regenerating or decaying in the lake.

Lake Isabella is a wonderful place to live and play. By everybody doing his/her part to ensure the quality of our lake, Lake Isabella will be here to enjoy for years to come.

I am looking forward to seeing you all at the Annual Property Owners meeting in May.

Thank you for your continued support,

~Larry Hiither
